This news segment discusses our big event at the State Capitol in Topeka tomorrow, promoting the 2010 Kansas Notable Books. “Silver Shoes” has been given a nice plug!
Book Signing at the Iola Family Reading Festival
Several 2010 “notable book” authors, including me, have just been invited by the Kansas Center for the Book to take part in the Iola Family Reading Festival at Allen County Community College on Saturday, September 18th. Sounds like a very cool event for the whole family with …
author talks, book signings, children’s craft activities, exhibits (from such organizations as the Kansas Center for the Book), and appearances by storybook characters.
… as they describe on the festival’s website page. Check it out, HERE.
I’ll post details about specific locations and times when I learn them. The full event is to take place from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM on campus, and for any of you in or near Iola, Kansas (about an hour and a half due south of Lawrence), I’ll be selling and signing books that day on behalf of the Kansas Center for the Book. Stop by, check out the festival, buy a book or two or three, and say hi!
UPDATE (August 28, 2010): I found out this week that my book-signing will be from 2pm-3pm that Saturday, September 18th. You’ll find me at the exhibit sponsored by the Kansas Center for the Book. Hope to see you there!

“Silver Shoes” – A 2010 Kansas Notable Books selection!
A bit of good news arrived today, and I had to share it with you! Here’s what they said:
Dear Mr. Schneider,
It is my pleasure to inform you that Silver Shoes has been selected as a 2010 Kansas Notable Book!
The Kansas Notable Books List was created to recognize the literary richness of our state and is a project of the Kansas Center for the Book at the State Library of Kansas. The annual selection of 15 books reflecting Kansas cultural heritage features quality titles with wide public appeal that are either written by Kansas residents or about a Kansas-related topic.
As a Notable Book author you will be invited to participate in several events, including a reception September 10 at the Kansas State Capitol at which medals for the award will be presented.
Your official congratulatory letter will be arriving in the mail shortly.
We look forward to seeing you in September. More information will follow concerning the reception.
Sincerely,
Jo Budler
State Librarian of Kansas
Very cool! Now that’s what I call a warm welcome to the state!
